Hi racers!
We are excited to welcome you to the 8th annual Maine Summer Adventure Race, taking place on Saturday, July 13 at P-3 Park in Brunswick! Race day is approaching fast. Please review this information carefully and make sure all of your teammates see it too. We will send out another update about 1 week before race day.
Finalizing Team Registrations. Make sure that all of your teammates are registered for the race as soon as possible by checking the team lists here: 3-hour race, 8-hour race, 24-hour race. The 8-hour race is currently full; if you need to add a teammate to an 8-hour race team email us ASAP at [email protected] so we can move them to the top of the waitlist. We anticipate that the 24-hour race will fill soon too so we recommend finalizing your team registration within the next week!
Mandatory Gear Lists. The mandatory gear lists are finalized and posted on our website. Racers from all events should review the list for their race and ensure that they have all of the required items with them for race day. We will check mandatory gear on the course so don’t risk getting a penalty!
24-hour racers should note that we are requiring that teams bring 1 rope at least 15’ long per boat for the paddle section(s). Teams will be required to pull their boats on shore in a tidal area and the rope will be necessary to prevent boats from being swept away by the tide. We will send out boat configurations including how many tandem vs. single kayaks each team will get in our next racer update 1 week before the event.
3-hour racers should note that a bike is required, and that bike trailers or other kid-friendly attachments are welcome!
Post-Race Meal Considerations. We will have food and drinks to celebrate after the end of each race with a range of options that will satisfy omnivores and vegetarians. Please email us at [email protected] if you have any dietary restrictions (e.g., vegan, gluten-free, food allergies) so that we can plan accordingly.
Lodging: We are working to finalize a discounted rate at the Residence Inn Bath Brunswick Area, which is a 10-minute drive from the race start. There are numerous other hotels in the area, as well as camping options easily findable through a Google search.
Sponsors. We couldn’t do this without the generous support of our sponsors! Please consider supporting the businesses listed on our website as you stock up for your AR needs. We appreciate their ongoing support of our event and the sport of adventure racing!
As an early thank-you to all our racers, OutThereUSA is offering a 20% discount on their fantastic AR-specific race packs. Use the code: StrongMachine20
Seeking Volunteers. We are forever indebted to our fantastic volunteer crew, who you will see throughout the race weekend staffing our registration table and transition areas, and shuttling gear all over the course. If you know anyone who would like to help out during the race weekend, we could use another few volunteers to help out early Saturday morning through early evening. We offer big discounts to entries for a future race for all of our volunteers as well as an event t-shirt, food during the race, and entry to our big post-race feast.
ARWS North America and USARA Race Series. All of our races are a part of the United States Adventure Racing Association national points series. As a regional qualifier race, the mixed-gender premier division winner of the 24-hour race will receive a free entry to the USARA National Championship in Snowshoe, West Virginia, taking place September 26-28. The 24-hour event is part of the Adventure Racing World Series - North America Series. We are excited to partner with USARA and ARWS and their community of adventure races around the country and the globe!
Race Week Update. Our final racer update, to be sent a week before the race, will include a detailed event schedule, parking location, GPS tracking link for the 24-hour race, boat configurations for the 8- and 24-hour races, paddle/gear/transition bag info for the 8- and 24-hour races, and other important details. Please note that we do not plan to release a schematic with details about course stages like the order or length of each stage. This will all be a part of the race day surprise!
